I am
posting a new version of the first chapter of Reapers. I stripped out

this includes quite a bit more of the story.

Reapers Announcement - A New Book Coming!
Today I am announcing what the mysterious
Project R is all about. The "R" stands for Reapers, which is the title
of a book I have been working on for a year and a half. I shopped it
around to publishers and received a contract offer, but I decided
I would like to try to publish it myself through my special projects
company, Scrub Jay Journeys. More on that process in a moment.
I asked James Art Ville to create this temporary cover for announcement purposes. I think it's pretty amazing. I will decide on a final cover later. This cover features the three main characters. From left to right - Singapore, Phoenix, and Shanghai. For a high-resolution version click here.
You can read more about the story here - http://www.daviscrossing.com/ReapersStory.pdf
Regarding self publishing, I plan to go the high-quality route by using offset printing (rather than print-on-demand digital) to create a lot of copies. This allows me to sell them at a lower price, but it will require a high initial investment. I will need to sell 300 copies through pre-order to get enough capital to make it happen, so I hope many of you will help.
More on the fundraising effort here - http://www.daviscrossing.com/ReapersFundraising.pdf
You may pre-order Reapers here - http://www.daviscrossing.com/ReapersPreOrder.html and we can start climbing toward the goal right away.
Reapers is a different kind of story for me. I am hoping to reach out to mainstream readers who might never set foot in a Christian bookstore. The story has no overt faith elements, but it still has spiritual benefits. My hope is to attract new readers who will then pick up my other books and receive a more overt spiritual message.
More on that topic here - http://www.daviscrossing.com/ReapersBenefits.pdf
Now for the most fun part, the first chapter of Reapers - http://www.daviscrossing.com/Reapers-chapter-one.pdf
Please let me know what you think, and feel free to ask questions.

Qualifications to be a Pre-publication Reader for The Seventh Door
Qualifications to be a pre-publication reader for The Seventh Door. You must:
1. Have read all ten previous books in the story world.
2. Within two weeks of receiving the new book, read it and provide an endorsement statement such as we have at the front of the other books.
3. Allow me to use your statement and name for printing in the book or in marketing materials.
4. Have a mailing address in the United States (Sorry, but it's too expensive and time-consuming to mail to other countries)
5. Promise not to reveal anything about the story to anyone whether in person, online, or by any other means.
If you want to be chosen as a pre-publication reader, send an email stating that you meet the above qualifications, and tell me why you are a good candidate.
I will choose 15 readers and make my choices based on several factors, including promptness, ability to spread the word about the book online, and the impact the books have made on your life or the lives of others you know.
If I choose you, that doesn't mean your endorsement statement will automatically be included in the book. I will probably have about 12 statements in the book, depending on length of the statement, so probably not everyone will be included.
You may send in your request starting immediately, and I would like all requests in by the end of next week (midnight September 21).

is free Thursday evening, and I will be at an exhibitor’s booth selling and
signing booths. If you want to come, I would love to see you, and I will be
glad to sign books you already own.
I will speak
Friday on the topic of fantasy and its effects on readers, and I will speak
Saturday on my journey to publication. I will also be at the booth during both
of those days. The expo charges admission for Friday and Saturday.
For more
information, here is a link for the expo: http://www.service-life.com/mo/stlhomeschoolexpo/
If you have
any questions, please let me know. If you know anyone in the area who might be
interested in coming, please pass along the information.
I hope to
see you there!

A New Stargate Game
You might be wondering why I am providing news about a game related to a television show. First, I contributed to the game's storyline. Since the game's producer is my friend, he invited me to inject a few ideas. Second, the game's producer is also the producer for a potential Raising Dragons movie. If this game launch is successful, he will be in a much better position to secure funding for the movie.
The game launches on March 14 for Apple iOS systems (iPhone and iPad), and the company will add Android systems next week. The game will expand to other platforms during the next couple of months.
Here is a link to the company's website - http://www.arkalisinteractive.com/
The game app costs only $4.99. I hope you will do what you can to support the effort and share the news with your friends.

Prepare for Exodus Rising
Many readers of my books have yet to try my Tales of Starlight series. I think they're missing out on some of my best stories, especially if they like a bit of wholesome romance mixed in with the daring adventures.
In order to make ready for the release of book #3 in the series, Exodus Rising, I am offering the first two books for only $18 for the combo. That's five dollars off retail for each book.
Buy them now, and you'll have time to read them in time for the release of Exodus Rising. Here is the purchase link - http://www.daviscrossing.com/TalesComboTwo.html
You can also pre-order Exodus Rising from me here - http://www.daviscrossing.com/ExodusRising.htm
Even those who have read the Dragons of Starlight books, including Liberator, do not yet know the rest of the story. Exodus Rising reveals several mysteries that the Dragons of Starlight series never explained. Where will the dragons get pheterone after the final battle? What happened to the disembodied spirits in Alaph's castle? What horrific danger did Jason and Elyssa meet when they returned to their home world? And much more.
If you want to enjoy both series, here is my recommended reading order:
1. Starlighter (Dragons of Starlight book #1)
2. Masters & Slayers (Tales of Starlight book #1)
3. Warrior (Dragons of Starlight book #2)
4. Third Starlighter (Tales of Starlight book #2)
5. Diviner (Dragons of Starlight book #3)
6. Liberator (Dragons of Starlight book #4)
7. Exodus Rising (Tales of Starlight book #3)
You may switch the reading order for entries 1 and 2 without any problem, and you may also switch the order for entries 4 and 5.
This is the final book in this story world, so don't miss out on how the entire adventure comes to a close.

Year-long Book Giveaway Update
There are two new ways to get your name into the monthly drawing for the book giveaway. (See http://dragonsinourmidst.blogspot.com/2013/01/new-contest-for-remainder-of-2013.html for contest details. I added the new information to the original post.) If you already have your name in the drawing, these tasks will allow you to get your name in additional times.
#1 - Post a 5-star review of any of my books on either Amazon.com, Christianbook.com, or BN.com, and send the link to me by email - bryan (at) daviscrossing (dot) com. It has to be a review posted today or later. You may post as many reviews as you wish, but only one will qualify to give you another name in the drawing for this month. You may do this again in later months, but it has to be for a different book each time. Therefore, if you post a review in January, I will add your name once for the drawing. If you post a review in February for a different book, I will add your name again, and so on.
#2 - Go to a bookstore that has one of my books on the shelves. Have your photo taken at the shelf with the book in sight in the photo. Also, you need a story employee with you in the photo. The idea is to alert the bookstore employees about my books so they will know to tell customers about them. It is best to call ahead to make sure one of my books is in stock and to find out if an employee is allowed to participate. Email the photo to me and let me know if I have permission to post the photo on the blog and/or Facebook. Permission to post is not required in order to get your name in the drawing. Completing this task will get your name into the drawing three additional times. As with #1 above, this will count only once each month.

New Contest for the Remainder of 2013
The all-year contest. One book to be given away each month.
Notes:
To enter the monthly drawing, post the following links on
your Facebook wall or blog:
My website - http://www.daviscrossing.com/
My shopping page - http://www.daviscrossing.com/shopping.htm
My Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/BryanDavis.Fans
If you post this information, send me an email letting me
know – bryan
(at) daviscrossing (dot) com. Tell me your name and provide a link to the
posting, and you will be entered in the drawing.
At the end of each month through 2013, I will draw from all
those who have entered and will send the winner one of my books (winner’s choice
of book), autographed if so desired. The book will also include a vintage
bookmark from one of my earliest books. (See photos of bookmarks to the left.)
The names in the drawing will roll over to the next month,
and you will be able to add your name again by posting the same information the
next month. For example, if your name is in the drawing for January but you
don’t win, your name will automatically be in the drawing for February. If you
post the links in February and you let me know about your post, your name will
be entered in February’s drawing an additional time, giving you a better chance
to win. If you participate every month by posting the information each month,
you’ll have your name in the drawing twelve times for December’s drawing.
If you win, your winning entry will be taken out of the
drawing for the next month, but your other entries will remain. For example, if
you had three entries in the drawing for the month of March and you won that
month, your winning entry will be taken out, but your other two entries will
roll over into April’s drawing, and new entries may be added according to the
normal rules.
Also, if anyone orders a book from my shopping page, and
that buyer lets me know that your prompting brought about the order, your name
will be entered three additional times for that month, and those entries will
roll forward through the months as well.
Here is a potential post you can use for your Facebook wall

Notes:
The contest is open to U.S. and non-U.S. residents with
one qualification. If a non-U.S. resident wishes to participate, he or she,
upon winning a book, must agree to pay the difference in shipping charges
between what it would cost to ship to a U.S. resident versus what it would cost
to ship to the non-U.S. winner. That extra charge must be paid through Paypal
within three days of the drawing. If a potential non-U.S. resident wants to
know in advance how much that cost would be, that person should email me the
shipping location and which book he or she is interested in, and I will respond
with the information. If a non-U.S. winner doesn’t pay the extra shipping
charges within three days, I will conduct a new drawing for that month. U.S. winners
will not have to pay any shipping charges.
As an alternative for a non-U.S. winner, I can send a book to a U.S. address at no charge, and the winner can arrange to have it shipped to his or her country.
As an alternative for a non-U.S. winner, I can send a book to a U.S. address at no charge, and the winner can arrange to have it shipped to his or her country.
The winners of the drawings will be notified by email, and
their names will be announced on my blog or Facebook page if the winners permit
the public announcement. If the winner does not respond to my notification email within 72 hours, that person's name will go back into the drawing pool, and I will choose a different winner for that month.
You must email me each month to get a new entry into the
drawing. Notifications given to me in any other way will not qualify.
Please make your Facebook or blog postings as public as
possible based on what you and/or your parents allow in the security settings.
Creating a new blog or Facebook page just for this contest
is not allowed. The blog or page must have been in place and active before the
start of this contest.
You will not receive additional entries for posting the
information in multiple places. For example, if you post the information on
Facebook and on a blog during January, you will receive only one entry that
month. Still, I would appreciate the multiple posts.
If you don’t post the information on Facebook or on a blog,
you may still be entered in the contest through the book purchase option.
If you buy a book yourself, that does qualify you to receive
the three additional entries.
This contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed, or
administered by Facebook or Blogger.com.
Participants are providing information to Bryan Davis and
not to Facebook or Blogger.com. All information will be kept private and not
shared with any third party.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Florida Christian Writers Conference!
Writers and potential writers, please consider attending the Florida Christian Writers Conference February 27 to March 3 at the Lake Yale Conference Center near Leesburg, FL.
When people ask me what advice I would give to aspiring writers, my number one answer is to go to such conferences. There you will meet one-on-one with publishing house representatives, published authors, and literary agents who can help you with your writing and potentially help you with getting your work published.
My career launched at this conference, so maybe yours can as well.
I will be leading the "Teen Track" at this year's Florida conference, so if you want to learn writing techniques from me, you will receive several hours of training, including individual critiques of your work.
There are also contests, a banquet, and lots of time to interact with other conferees. You can learn much more from the conference website - http://www.floridacwc.net/
