Favorite Book Poll

Now that The Bones of Makaidos has been out for a while, I decided to post a new poll to see how the dragons books rank as favorites among readers. The poll is in the left sidebar. Please don't vote unless you have read all eight. The poll will last one month.

If you want to comment on how you voted and why, please feel free to post your thoughts in a comment.

TBoM closely followed by EG because everything we readers logged for--*hums Here Come the Brides* happens there

Although I really enjoyed TBoM, my pick was Enoch's Ghost. I cried at the end :'(
Such a great ending to a series though!

Enoch's Ghost! I loved all the others, but EG has in my opinion the best story of all eight.

I've always had a weakness for falling completely in love with the first book in a great series. Raising Dragons did that for me. It's almost impossible to pick a favorite, because my favorite characters are Gabriel and Elam, but my favorite book would have to be Raising Dragons. Then Circles of Seven. Then "Bones". It's just hard... =)

I voted for tBoM. It was a close call between that and CoS. Both are the most complex and longest in their respective series. Both are my favorites. But I felt that tBoM was the launching pad for a refreshed, deeper and more vibrant faith. The day after finnishing it, my pastor reenforced the messages proclaimed by the book. It was life-transforming. God has set an undying fire to my soul, and I will never be the same.

I voted for CoS. I;m not really sure exactly why, but I have always loved that certain part in the story.

Wow! In your Philippians 4:13, "All things", comment on the top left of your blog do you really mean to knock the Harris brothers by quoting their book title, "Do Hard Things" in connection with your "balking at the notion" comment? If so, what are you basing your opinion on? Just curious.
Beki (sorry I do not have a google account, otherwise I would have left my ID)

Beki, I base my comment on what I read in the book, Do Hard Things. Here is a link to my review. http://dragonsinourmidst.blogspot.com/2008/08/do-hard-things-review.html

While telling young people to do all sorts of hard things, which is an admirable teaching, they deny that we can obey God in all things, which is a faithless and unbiblical teaching.

Obviously they don't think God is powerful enough to help us obey Him completely, which denies the truth of the verse I quoted and impugns God's power. I see this as a dangerous way to teach young people, and it will lead them to harm.

I was stuck between Raising Dragons and The Bones of Makadios. I just love the thrill of the first story and the unknown. It was so much fun to read and enjoy. I mean, a story about a kid who was also a dragon and could also breathe fire. It was so original and great. BUT... TBoM was an unbelievable finale with a huge battle finish the climax every fan had waited for... the wedding. It was a hard choice but it came down to how long the book was in which TBoM wins hands down. So that is how I voted. It was hard but... yeah.

circles of Seven! yeah!

It was close between Eye of the Oracle (I like the medieval-yness) and Bones....but I picked Eye. :)

It's really strange, but I had to pick the Candlestone. I could just relate to that one in a very deep way

I voted for TBoM! Though it was a close call between that or RD or CoS! I LOVED the ending!!! It was beautiful!!!!! LONG LIVE ANTHROZILS!!!!!!

I had to choose Bones! All eight books were amazing, what with exciting plots, deep spiritual insights, and characters that you can really delve into and relate to. But Bones really drew me in. Not only was it long, but it is one of the few books I have ever read that isn't just a book -- it's a fabulous work of art that becomes reality in your mind.
Totally awesome!

I had to pick TBoM. I loved the whole thing. I was sad that Gabriel and Shiloh din't make it a quad wedding. Though was very about the epilogue! That was awesome! I loved that book! <3 <3

Thank you for all the great comments and for participating in the poll!

Wow! What a choice! All fantastic books. Im going to have to say the bones was number one! I can't resist a well done finale!

Eye of the Oracle

Probably the best "stand alone" book in the series, it's also both long and interesting.

Circles of Seven was pretty good too though. Had a hard time choosing between the two.

Mr. Davis, you have outdone yourself! A few days ago I pulled an all-nighter just to finish tBoM, and I cried at the finale. And then I was so happy that I laughed the next day whenever I thought about it. That had got to be the best and most complicated book I have ever read! I would have left you a comment sooner, but I couldn't find the words! I plan on reviewing it, when I let the entirety of your story sink in. God has definitely used your books to speak to me.

One thing I really would like to thank you for is creating Bonnie Silver. For years I've searched for a heroine that I could look up to, relate with, and totally just love, and, for the first time, I found that in Bonnie. Her incredible faith and love witnessed to me throughout the entire series--and especially in tBoM. I have searched and searched, even tried creating, a heroine, and finally my search has come to an end.

Even though Bonnie is fictional, I feel as if she were real. Your tales of her were so vivid that I could hardly believe she wasn't! The same goes for the entire series. I often catch myself thinking "what is going on in Second Eden right now?" or "Is Bonnie's contact information out there?" Even "I wish I could meet Sapphira"! It's crazy awesome! A couple nights after I finished I woke up thinking I could yell ignite and set my hand on fire!

They are truly the best books I have ever read-- neck and neck with Francine Rivers' "Redeeming Love." I will be telling everyone I know about these books. My life is forever changed!

Thank you!!

PS I voted for tBoM, but it was so hard to decide.

Ellie, thank you for the uplifting testimony. Bonnie has encouraged thousands of young ladies all over the world, and I am deeply grateful for that. I think God is using her character mightily.

Do you know of any reviews that would be helpful for someone trying to decide to read your books or not? I'm trying to convince my friend's mom to let her read them, but she doesn't think they're Christian because they have dragons in them.

i voted tbom because it's got a lot of action and romance...i cried at the end.

Ellie, try this one:

If that doesn't work for you, please let me know.

I voted for Eye if the Oracle. It answered some questions I had about the first series like where did Gabriel go? I LOVED how Sapphira was introduced. But one question was never answered:What happened to Derrick? He just kind of disappered.
I also liked TBoM. Walter's proposal was funny and touching.

After finishing the book The Bones of Makaidos, I began to wonder if you are planning on writing another series based on some of the characters in Dragons and Oracles.
It just felt like the story has not ended.

Bryan Davis said...

Anonymous, I left a slight opening at the end of "Bones" so that I could write another series, but I'm not sure what or when. I want to make sure I have a great idea in mind. I don't want to write a continuation just for the sake of continuing it.

I realize this is waaaay off topic, but I was at a Japanese Animation convention a couple weeks ago and I saw Jesus O.O
No joke (I have pictures)! There was a guy dressed up in white robes with a red sash and a cross (I wonder how heavy it was, but I was too shocked to ask XD).
Just thought this would be a point of interest for anyone ^-^

Oh dear how can I posibly choose only one for the poll?!? They are all so amazing!

-I have got to be there when these books are being done in a movie someday! I mean, they just have to be! What a great light in this world to people it easily can be if done right.
These books are Truly Inspiring!

I know the poll's closed by now, but I would just like to say that my favorite would have to have been Eye of the Oracle. I never voted because I couldn't decide, but last night I was just thinking about the books...
I love the way you make everything fit together in EotO. You went from the very beginning of the Bible all the way through history. And the cool part is, it all makes sense. You have Methusala dying the year of the flood (which, if you add up the years in the Bible, that was when he died); you have the sons of God and the daughters of men coming into play; and you even have Naamah fitting in as Ham's wife! I really enjoyed reading EotO because it was fun to look up the spots in the Bible that you writing about. Thank you for writing such an amazing series!
