The Bones of Makaidos Update

As some of you know, I am in the middle of writing The Bones of Makaidos, so immersed, in fact, that I have taken a leave of absence from my message forum to concentrate on the task.

So, I thought some of you might want an update on my progress. It looks like I will be dividing the book into two major sections, similar to how I divided Eye of the Oracle into three sections. So far, I have worked only on the first part, and I have written about 83,000 words. Since I'm almost finished with a draft of that section, I'm guessing that the total word count for that part will end up being around 90,000 words. I have no idea yet if the second section will be shorter, longer, or about the same length.

The story is, if I do say so myself, super. I'm really excited about it. I have learned a lot about my characters and their histories, even why one of them was named as he or she was. I had not known it before. And I raised tidbits from earlier books that I didn't think would come up again. Loose ends are tying up in ways I never imagined, and the story is culminating in an amazing way.

I even learned today what an Oracle of Fire really is and why she is called that. I was surprised and delighted.

I expect to finish the first draft by the second week in December and all editing by the end of the year. Look for The Bones of Makaidos on bookstore shelves in April of 2009.

I plan for this to be the last book in the Oracles of Fire series. I don't know yet if I will ever revisit this story world that began with Raising Dragons, but any additions will not come in the near future. As soon as this is done, I have to begin work immediately on the Riders of the Apocalypse series as well as an adult fantasy novel for Zondervan.

If you will pray for me as I write, I would appreciate it very much.

I have kept praying for you, Mr. Davis, that you will have the Lord's fire in your hands as you write. I will continue to do so and I look forward with great anticipation to this book. :o)

Always the teaser. *smiles and shake head* Just remember how fortunate you are that you don't have to wait so long to find all of this out - after someone gives you teasers about it! :P

I'm happy to hear that it's coming well.

I'm delighted to hear about your literary discoveries, and I will pray for your work and continued success.

Wow, this book is going to be that long, huh? It sounded like it was going in that direction. More for us to read!

You just never stop, do you? ;) Yeah, I'll be praying. Keep up the good work.

Keep it up! The longer the better, as long as it's as good as the others.

Just out of curiosity, how many words is Eye of the Oracle? Do you think Bones of Makaidos could be longer?

Jordan,

Eye of the Oracle is 182,000 words. I don't know if "Bones" will be longer or not. Since I'm a seat-of-the-pants writer, I don't know what's going to happen yet.

Awesome! the tention is killing me!

I love that feeling of dicovering something you hadn't known of you own characters. Isn't it awesome!

I personally love figuring out the back stories too...some people may not understand this kind of talk...I like when people can indentify with me in that how characters are not completely known even to the author

I think the coolest thing about writing is what you discover along the way. Thanks for sharing that!

From all the things of heard, This book will be the best of them all. Would you say that this book was the most enjoyable and easy to write Mr. Davis?

Woot! I can't wait! I'll definately be praying as you write TBoM. :)

Noahr,

Most enjoyable and easy to write? No. It's neither. I wouldn't call any of my books easy to write, and they are a blend of pleasure and torture to write.

Thank you to all who are praying for me. I really appreciate it.

Colton, Riders of the Apocalypse is my next young adult series with Zondervan. I haven't described it much yet, but I hope to pretty soon.

I just finished Last of the Nephilim and I absolutely loved it! It was amazing and I really enjoyed it.
I love how your books engage you so deeply into such a great adventure and instills spiritual truths at the same time. You are forever one of my favorite authors- right up there with C.S. Lewis (though I'm sure you've heard that plenty of times).
You've don't a great job on these books and I am forever grateful to my brother for pestering me into reading them. :P
We are both eagerly anticipating the release of "Bones of Makaidos".
Keep serving the Lord with everything in you!
